I've been using it for years and I agree.

I honestly can't stand advertisements of any kind (tv, radio, or print). If I really like a site and know that it's ad supported, I'll turn off adblock every once in a while and click on all the ads.

Although Adblock plus is an amazing addon I prefer Tab Mix Plus (TMP) although I do have both installed anyway xD

I use Opera and disable the Plugins and Javascript.
Press F12. Deselect Enable Plugins. Deselect JavaScript.
Works well for me.

I prefer noscript. It doesn't block all ads, but I don't mind them. It mostly just blocks the annoying javascript ads.

Really, I prefer to unblock ads on websites that I like to support. Fortunately, most websites can tell when I have scripts disabled and serve a static ad instead.

Works well for me.

I use NoScript and Adblock Plus. I like Adblock the most because it stops the flashing ads easily and I like NoScript because I can choose when to let JavaScript on and on what sites.

I had Flashblock. I trashed Falshblock.
I don't like it because Flashblock is harder to handle. Youtube was a pain because Flashblock would block the video. If I would enable Flash for the movie, nothing would happen. I would the refresh the page and Flashblock would block it again. I figured out that I had to enable flash as soon as the page began to load or I couldn't watch the clip. Still it was hit or miss. On split second slow and a refresh was needed. I now block Flashblock. ;)

You can disable it as a default behaviour and allow it for specific site. It works just the same as NoScipt.

I do use Ad Block (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10) though, along with Adblock Filterset.G Updater (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1136), and of course, NoScript and CustomizeGoogle.

I never see any ads really.

Thanks for the information! I never realized that Adblock Plus could affect performance as much as it apparently does -- switching from it to Ad Block makes my Firefox fly! And with that Filterset I haven't seen any ads either (I only did a quick test on some ad-heavy sites, though). :KS

Agreed. I can't surf without AdBlock Plus. I don't know how I ever survived without it. The ads are immediately noticeable (and annoying) now.

On the other hand, I tried NoScript for a while but found it to be overkill. If you're visiting mainstream sites, you have little to worry about, espcially on Linux. The only exploit that I've come across since I started using Ubuntu three years ago is a tinyurl link to a .js file that copied my cookies. But the passwords are kept eslewhere in an encrypted file, so it wasn't much of a breach. Plus, you can set tinyurl so it will show you the urls first.

The biggest problem, even for mainstream sites, is xss using iframes. They should be savvy enough about security to turn off HTML in forms, or use Site Security Policy.

Yeah ad block is a must for me to but actually i also use ever add on mentioned here so far except for flash block. And might I mention grease monkey and stylish. These two add ons allow you to customize web pages somewhat. Way cool :)

Adblock plus G script and no script are a must have for me.

Can you imagine, in some ad agency's ivory tower the bean counters are scratching their heads wondering why the numbers just don't add up. "but by our reckoning there should be X amount more people browsing these sites".

I know you can block elements, but I do not want to right click on 5 things on each page and select block.

when i switched to opera i had to download this HUGE file that was supposed to block all the ads, but it didnt do near as good job as adblock plus.

You can either edit your urlfilter.ini youself, adding what you need as you go along, or you can go online and find a list to copy and paste into the same file.

Agreed. I only briefly used Adblock Plus because of that.
