today I upgraded from 1gb to 4gb ram.
it works fine now and ubuntu sees 3,9gb.
I have a 2gb swap partition and was wondering if i should increase that since I have more ram now.
I seem to run fine with 2gb (0% in use) but I wasn't to sure about it :)

With that total amount of physical RAM, there's no need to increase your SWAP partition. Just leave it be.

I have a similar setup with 4 GB RAM and 2,5 GB swap and it works well. I had never a swap usage that exceeded some hundred MB. So I think 2 GB of swap are enough.
