I have browsed the forum and I can't find the answer I want.

I have Win2k installed on the first partition of a disk with 3 partitions. The 2nd partition has some windows apps on it and I would like to install Ubuntu on the third partition.

I want to be able to dual boot the machine. I have worked out that I need to select the advanced options button on one of the install dialogues and that I need to install the boot loader.

My question is where?

The default installation appears to be hd0. Will this do?

As a vaguely competent newbie I must admit to finding the Linux install process far from easy and straightforward.

If you are posting from the live-cd i.e. using Ubuntu in CDROM, then could you post the output of:

fdisk -l

In case you are posting from W2K, then could post the screenshot of Disk Management Console.

I suggest you just use wubi if you are not confident partitioning ;)

Excellent. I think that is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you fellow Cambridge dweller ;)

Cool...

I'm actually living in Letchworth at the moment but grew up on the Chesterton/Arbury boarder and lived there all my life till a few years ago.

No one here would know where Letchworth is so i just leave Cambridge on there.
