So my roommate is a computer enthusiast like myself, but he tend to be partial to certain things (operating systems, computer languages, etc.). Anyway, he always (read: daily) finds reasons to make a crack at me using Linux. Well, I was cruising around Digg yesterday and heard about the new miley cyrus photos leaked. They aren't anything to brag about but someone in the comments posted a link to real nude ones. I new what was coming but clicked it anyway. A file called Setup.exe tried to open but nothing happened (ie gotta love linux). My friend made his usual linux bashing comment but this time I went along with it.

Me: "Dang I can't open it. Linux does blow, I can never open stuff."
Him: "That's what I keep telling you."
Me: "Here I'll send you the link."

couple of minutes pass

Him: "Son of a B****!! It's a virus!!"

hahahahahaha, anyone else have an similar stories?

Sorry, not impressed. I guess your not really that close to your roommate to just try and infect his PC with a virus? Plus, if that PC were now compromised, it could infect others, plus take up bandwidth trying to do so.

My buddy told me I was stupid for ditching my vista and going with linux. The other day he was on a risque website and downloaded what he thought was just a video, he then found out that it was a nasty worm that ate his system. And the dumb *** couldn't find the restore disk or his backup disk... I installed Ubuntu on his system and he loves it. I make him eat his words whenever I can.

It wasn't kind if you did it deliberately.
It wasn't smart if you did it accidently.

It didn't do any harm. He ran his virus scanner and it picked up the trojan and removed it easily. No lasting effects:)

That is truly mean, but most of Windows' security problems come from the fact that its users generally have no sense not to click on any executables from the web. That, and browsing the web as a privileged user. But I guess with Vista's broken super-user system and the fact that runas (XP's sudo) no longer works as it should, it is hopeless.

Its fine then. At least no harm done.
Some lesson you taught him in responsible computing. ;)

I don't see this as a Linux vs. Windows thing. (And it shouldn't turn into one.)

I just see it as a lesson in downloading responsibly.

The computer half of the brain says don't click it

The male half of the brain says it could be real

It's all about the risks involved:lolflag:

I mis-read this thread title when it came up on the main screen. The title was truncated, and read "I have to share my nude miley...." and I thought it said "I have to share my nude SMILEY". For a minute I thought the forums were going to be over-run with emoticon porn.

I agree. Even the security of Linux and BSD would fall apart from user negligence.

Or maybe the male pedophilic half of the brain. Miley Cyrus is only fifteen years old.

You know... If you're looking to see Miley Cyrus nude, you could very well be branded a pedophile in the United States. She was born in 1992. That makes her either 15 or 16 years old.

The adult in me likes the fiber and vitamins that I get from the wheat side of Kellogg's(tm) Frosted Mini-Wheats(tm)...

...but the kid in me loves the sweet and delicious frosted side!

The OP's actions might seem mean, but I agree: his friend should have had more sense!

if she is 16, she is legal in many states (http://www.coolnurse.com/consent.htm) . if she is not, i can wait a couple of months. :)

Fair enough.

But the age of consent in Virginia is 18. The OP is from VA. :-P

But it really depends on the child pornography laws in your state, doesn't it?

Edit: Apparently, child pornography laws describe "minors" as anyone under the age of 18 years.

Who would have guessed that parents have an influence on how kids turn out....go figure

That Hannah Montana thing drives me insane. My sister watches it. How did Disney manage to group together so many kids with annoying voices in one program?

Also - isn't she like 15 or something?
