I have a dual boot( XP / Ubuntu 8.04) system. Both OS use a USR 5610B (hardware) modem. Today I am having a problem where XP uses this modem and I can connect to a ISP and surf. When I try to connect using Ubuntu it drops connection within in 4-5 seconds after authorized. Have updated Ubuntu to get current packages several times since I last used gnome-ppp. Ubuntu connection worked several days ago, now..... no-workie .....

Included is log of Ubuntu using gnome-ppp. ( tried 2 phone connections)

Try not using gnome-ppp, instead type wvdial into terminal. If you have no luck with that try editing /etc/wvdial.conf

gksudo wvdial.conf

and adding the line:

Stupid Mode = 1

No, this really is not a joke.

now try wvdial again.
