Now that Linus has released the official 2.6.26 kernel (http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;1645951050;fp;2;fpid;1), how about some adventurous soul install it onto their Ubuntu box and let us know how it goes :)

i believe it is already in the intrepid alphas. Take a look yourself if you want. If you dont want to do a full install just run it in vmware.

I just installed Alpha 1. Low graphics. I used amd64. Don't update. .2 is OK., but .3 is not. Alpha 2 is no good.

The Ubuntu intrepid kernel is based on 2.6.26-rc8. The official linux kernel just released is apparently more similar to the recent rc9 (not that it would make much difference to the average joe, though)

Yes thats what is in the ISO but there are updates several times a day. I havent gotten it going yet myself because virtual box is having trouble with 2.6.26 but I would think the final 2.6.26 kernel will be upgraded by the end of the day tomorrow at the latest.

Ahh... perhaps this weekend I will install it on an empty partition. Thanks for the info.

I've installed 2.6.26 (custom built) in Hardy and have no problems. My only complaint would be that compiz performance with nvidia is sometimes noticeably choppy when compared to 2.6.24. This has been the case since 2.6.25 though.
