hi guys!! i have a problem with ubuntu. i cant install software to my laptop. there is a pop message saying that the disc which i was inserted to the cdrom was not a debian disc. how can i resolve this problem? thanks

You need to boot from the CD to install it on your system.

Are you trying to install Windows software onto an Ubuntu system? What type of software are you installing? Can you open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and copy-paste what happens when you type in "uname -a" ?
