When I first installed Ubuntu, I'd get heavy packet loss + high ping when doing things like running torrents or even downloading packages from the repositories. I updated the firmware on my router, and now I no longer get packet loss, but my ping still goes from 1-2ms to 500-600ms when doing things like downloading (or sometimes for no apparent reason at all).

I want to update the drivers for my WRT54g card. It's a RaLink RT2500 chip card, and I haven't been able to find instructions for updating the firmware or drivers. Anyone have any ideas?

note: I didn't have these problems in Windows. Trying to navigate to the WMP54G section of the linksys site now, though it's taking forever because of my ping problem.

Are you sure it is a problem with the router? It could be with your wireless chipset in the computer, right?
