installation hangs at step 2 of 7. (the where are you? screen)

its a dell dimension xps
pentium 4 HT
2.8Ghz
512MB ram
200GB SATA hard drive

Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron worked previously for about 3 months. then just stopped about a week ago.

what should i do?

oh... and it takes almost an hour to get to step 2:confused:

You may want to check the hardware. F12 on Dell logo, then 'Boot to utility partition. If everything pass, try liveCD again or use alternate CD installer.

Have you checked the cd to make sure it is good? (Even if it was good before, it may be bad now.)

yup... checked again... its good.

i also replaced the hard drive and changed the ram sticks. im thinking it might be the video card.... idk

You tried the alternate cd?
