So many problems with the wireless (stupid Broadcom chips), and I'm the one who ended up with trouble on the wired side... :P
Anywho, I have Ubuntu 8.04 Server installed on an old Dell Inspiron B120 laptop. I did that to find a use for it as its screen went bad (I have two of the same model purchased at the same time who both went bad at about the same time). I'm intending to pretty nearly exclusively use SSH once the machine is ready.
However, it's not getting a network address through the ethernet adapter. I know the cable is good, and the router works fine, but the to-be server doesn't seem to know it's connected.
I ran lspci and this is the line pertaining to the ethernet:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4401-B0 100BASE-TX (rev 02)
(I didn't want to type everything there, since I can't copy/paste, but that line is exact)
I noticed that the wireless is also a Broadcom chip, but wireless on the server is unimportant.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
