View Full Version : [ubuntu] problem reistalling hardy

i've been on hardy for about three months now. up until it wouldnt boot past the ubuntu loading screen.

so i've been trying to figure out what to do and i decided to do a fresh install. come to find out, it wont even do that. lost...

and did i mention that i'm a serious noob. well... kind of.

HI and welcome, did it start the issue after updates? Will the system not boot the live cd? Could you give us some system specs?

if you had it working before and did upgrade it is choking on the viv driver, need to search for info on redoing your driver.

if it is not even booting, i mean starting to load, then you have a grub problem

yes... happened after updates but i didnt boot up until the next day.

the live cd boots up, however, it runs extreeeeeeemly slow. i choose to install and seems to come to a complete stop at the "where are you?" screen ( the one where you choose a city)

dell xps desktop
p4 ht
512mb ram
80gb hd
(im not sure of the rest... havent checked. ubuntu 8.04 worked flawlessly for nearly three and a half months. was lovin it.)

Have you tried booting to recovery mode? Have you tried removing the quiet splash to see any errors?

yes, recovery mode did not work.
and i will try what you said now and post updates. thank you

okay... it did not work.

so i replaced the hard drive with a new one and tried to do a new install..... did not work either.

help

alright... after a looooong wait at the busy box screen, it started doing something. like checking for stuff. one of the things said it failed LOADING HARDWARE DRIVERS. what should i do?
