[Installing and updating your flash player for Ubuntu]
Step 1. Go to Adobe.com (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash)
You should get a screen that looks like this

Step 2. Download the .tar.gz for Ubuntu (though it could also be .rpm)

Step 3. When you are done downloading, a screen should pop-up saying "Downloads" and will have two links "Open" or "remove"
Click "open" then press and hold CTRL and click on both files.

step 4. Right-click and click "extract" you will then be able to find these files in your user-name folder

Double click on the file called flashplayer-install, and click "Run in terminal". Be sure that you have closed all firefox (or other browser) windows before you upgrade/install the latest flash version.

Hope you all found this to be useful ;)

yea if someone could please help me that'd be great. I'm having the same problem. I already tried sudo apt-get install ubufox
I already got the flash plugin from the add/remove applications.
I looked through about:plugins and flash was in there and activated.
I closed my browser and reopened it.
I went to mIRC #ubuntu and basically followed these instructions over again.
Someone please help :D
I need my youtube/vids back!
-----------------------------update---------------------------------
I went to the flash site and got the tar.gz and ran it. Closed/reopened ff3 and went to youtube. now when i go to a page with a video, the box where the video should appear momentarily flickers with a black flash video box and then goes back to the all white blank slate.

hmmm, thanks for the quick reply shebuwa, but that doesn't seem to have helped. i went to that thread and followed everything kaneda had tried, and then followed all the suggestions by cameO73 to no avail :(
