Why does Xubuntu look almost the same as Gnome? Isn't Xfce supposed to be a completely different DE?

I read somewhere that Xfce and GNOME are both based on GTK+.
Maybe thats why they look alike?

Because that's the way Ubuntu has set it up. A default Xfce is alarmingly minimalistic, but it is very customisable. A quick Google with 'customise Xfce' came up with this (http://xubuntublog.wordpress.com/2008/02/10/design-your-own-desktop-with-xfce-44/). Not sure I'd want Xfce looking like Vista, but it's a start. I'm sure you can find other links.
All right then. Here's another one (http://wiki.xfce.org/). That should keep you out of mischief. :p
