Hi All. I am new to Linux in general and am trying to install Xubuntu 8.04 on an IBM 390E laptop. The install went well but I had 158 updates to install. I foolishly just said install and have been watching the little icon turn circles for the past 48 hours and it is still running! Is this normal ( I have a broadband connection) and is there any way to see what progress has been made?
Thanks

Update: After 3 DAYS my laptop overheated and froze. I am now doing a clean install of Xubuntu and starting over. I guess I forhot to mention this was a clean, full install with no other OS on the machine.
Finally: I have managed to install ALL updates by selecting them in small groups. It took a couple of hours but the system is now updated!

48 hours does sound like a long time. When my ISP throttles back my speed to "dial-up speed" after I exceed my monthly data allowance, 208 update (which I have had on occasion) didn't take longer than about 9 hours.
