Hi, I've been wanting to try Linux for a while now, and decided to give it a go today, however my computer doesn't seem to want to boot the OS.

I insert the 8.04 disc, then boot up my computer, it brings up the Ubuntu menu fine, in which I can select Live, Install, or Test CD. No matter which I choose, after showing the splash screen, where the orange bar moves back and forth, BusyBox appears immediately after, showing these two errors;

ata300.00: exception emask 0x0 sact 0x0 serr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen

and

cmd c8/00:08:00:00:00/00:00:00:00:00/e0 tag 0 dma 4096

I believe the first error may be referring to a hard drive issue, however I've yet to find a solution. As for the second error, I have no idea what it is referring to.

Some things I've tried so far include un-plugging all usb devices, booting with the "irqpoll" parameter, and using various cd and dvd drives.

I'm running Windows XP on an HP computer. If you need any other details, feel free to ask, as I'll gladly supply it.

Thanks, and I would appreciate any assistance in this matter :)
