They have got to be kidding , what a rip off

"The 8GB iPhone will be available for on-account customers with a 1GB monthly data cap for NZ$199 on a two-year contract. The 16GB phone costs $349 on the same plan. The cost per month of the plan is $250.

On the lowest data plan, 250MB per month, the up-front cost of the 8GB iPhone is $549, while the 16GB costs $699. The cost per month of the plan is $80.

An intermediate plan, 500MB per month, will see the 8GB model available for $449 and the 16GB model at $599. The cost per month of the plan is $130"

people will still buy it... in fact people are already lining up for it... how sad :(

A lineup of about 10 people started queuing up from Friday for the iPhone 3G launch at the 5th Avenue Apple Store in New York.

The first people in line are a man, his wife and their young child. According to GearDiary, the couple told security that they're trying to set a record for time waiting in line and possibly having a baby waiting with them. Police are allowing the 10 people to wait in line and currently have no plans to use barricades.

It's just sad that people will wait for it like this.
I also heard it was pretty bad in Canada.

the i-phone is just hype... mega hype

<off topic>

a better choice would be the Sony Ericsson p1i which has everything, 3.2mp camera, bluetooth that (actually) works! and a touchscreen... oooh it also is 3g with a camera on the front :)

Yup (http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2008/07/08/tech-iphone.html).

Rogers and Fido will be offering the iPhone at $199 on a three-year contract with monthly plans starting at $60 plus a system access fee of $6.95. The basic plan offers 150 anytime voice minutes and 400 megabytes of internet usage. [...] In the United States, for example, AT&T Inc. will be offering the device at about the same monthly cost, but with triple the voice minutes and unlimited internet usage.

And our other major carrier (Bell) just decided to charge 15 cents per incoming text, including spam. I think I'll be waiting a few more years before I get me a cell phone.

I really don't think that th infrastructure could cost enough to justify those prices.
ISP's and Cellphone providers seem to be jerks.

a two year contract? :shock:

by that time, your fingerprints will be engraved in the touchscreen and billions of scratches, cracks and dents from day to day use!

Vodafone are the sole NZ agents . The prices here are the highest in the developed world. Vodafone are exploiting a monopoly, and have come to the attention of our Commerce Commission.
