Hey all. I cant seem to figure out how to get a live .asx video link to stream in VLC or Mplayer. Are there any other players that will stream a live video link?

Searching through the archives here it looks like its a big problem with 8.04.

Have you installed the Windows codecs package, called w32codecs, offered by the Medibuntu repository (http://medibuntu.org/)?

If not, just add this repository (instructions on how to do it are on its site) and then go to Synaptic and install the w32codecs package.

I'm only a newbie myself, but are you sure 3FM is an .asx? I haven't been able to play any .asx streams yet, but I'm able to play 3FM fine. Have you checked out reassuringlyoffensive's excellent guide on multimedia? http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683

Ubuntu live radio streaming. I have been jumping through multiple hoops for many days trying to get a live radio stream without much luck. Did it twice but could not repeat it. Read MANY MANY tips. Do this or that none of which worked. I DON'T want music [at this time]. I want a progressive live station. Now you know. I decided for a different approach. I googled for a specific staion. The second one listed three options, one of which was listen live. Yes! Gave me three choices. Real Player, MS, don"t know. I sure as heck didn't know for Ubunu. So I clicked on "don't know". It worked. Sometimes you have to go it to go in the BACK door. HOWEVER, AN OS as good as Ubuntu 8.04 should have a "hoopless" way to listen to streaming internet radio. It may be out there, but I have not found it. Hey, and gag, Windows XP works instantly without any fuss or fanfare. HTH

I dont know if this is technically an OS only issue. It appears to me that its just as much a web browser issue not supporting the live streaming. True, Firefox, Epiphany and Opera dont support this, probably because theres just not enough linux users yet requesting it. This should however make their browsers all work the same, across any OS in my opinion.

The problem is with Adobe Flash Player 10 not Ubuntu. Download a version of 9 and it will fix your streaming issue.

Flash Player will not fix streaming ASX video issues. Please read the thread's title before posting useless advice, as I am having issues with streaming ASX video streams as well. In my case, from the website tvweb360.com.
