I read that installing an OS on flash drive, will cut the life of the device.

Is there any way to see how many cycles r/w are supporting by the device, and how many you have already used?

Installing ubuntu on a 4gb flash usb and running it every day, how long will it last? days? months? years?

Thanks for your answers

That article was useful, thanks.

But i still wonder if there is a way to see (for example by shell) how many cycles my usb supports and if it is SLC or MLC memory.

If the article is right, it means that the new netbooks, or the mac book air, will not last for more than few years, and than the mamory will stop to work.

I searched a lot but i can not find anything serious about this issue, not even in the websites of the flash memory manufacturers.

Why you have written the same link?:confused::confused::confused:
That article does not tell me how to know the specifications of MY OWN USB.[-X[-X[-X[-X
I would like to know if there is a command by terminal that can tell me this.
