Ok, so I have been doing some research on Linux and the hosting comapany I use recommened this.

So, I want to install this as the primary OS over an old PC. If I like it, I will convert my XP or Vista.

The PC I am installing it on will not be able to acess the interent. So I am downloading it as I am typing, burn it onto a CD if I can find a big enough one and then put it on the Windows 98.

However, how do I format the computer. I want to wipe everything and then start again with the new OS.

How would I go about doing this. Please explain as if I know virtually nothing or point me to a good beginner tutorial.

Thanks

After you burn the CD - place it in the CD tray of the computer you're installing it onto. When the computer boots up, it will boot off of the CD. Then, you can run the "Live CD" to try out Ubuntu or you can "Install Ubuntu" In either case, it will bring up appropriate menus that will walk you through the installation process.

When it asks about your drives, just use the "Guided - Use Whole Disk" option and it'll clear off Windows 98 and install Ubuntu onto the computer.

Hope this helps!
