I just installed Ubuntu 7.10, and it came with Firefox 2.0. I want to install Firefox 3.0, but when I select it in add/remove programs, there is only "Firefox" and it installs Firefox 2.0. When I select Firefox 3.0 in Synaptic Package Manager, it installs Firefox 3.0, but then says "you must restart or quit any instances of firefox to run it." There are no instances running. Then, the only icon that shows up in the menu is for granparadiso. The only way I can run Firefox 3.0 is through the folder expanded from the compressed package downloaded directly from mozilla. Can someone please tell me how to manually install from this folder without having to run from it each time? Is there a way to install it through the package manager without the granparadiso?

Firefox 3 shouldn't even be available in Synaptic Package Manager if you're running Ubuntu 7.10.

Try this (http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/firefox#terminal).
