I was just wondering, why do some GTK 2.0 themes work, and some don't?

I put them all into ~/.themes, but it seems that only 50% of them work.

Can anyone tell my why this is happening, and/or how to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Please note that there are specific themes that require specific theme engines. And only a couple of engines are installed in Ubuntu by default. My guess is that you tried using a theme that requires an engine that's not yet installed on your system.

Oh cool...

Where do get these engines?

System > Admin > synaptic package manager

and search for "gtk2" ..... scroll down a bit and you'll see several gtk2 engines ready to install.....(note you want gtk2 and NOT gtk

some of the newer engines or latest versions may not be in the repos. You may need to compile them if that is the case.

the theme creators usually state what engine they are using and sometimes where to get it.

Like they said some themes require engines and it should tell you where you downloaded it from which one it requires.

Post some theme names here and we will try and help you out
