View Full Version : [xubuntu] How to adjust icon spacing?

July 8th, 2008, 06:44 AM

I took the plunge and installed the xubuntu-desktop package on top of my current Unbuntu (8.04) install and all appears well (apart from a few minor/unexplained glitches)...

I'm currently 'fine-tuning' the deskptop and was wondering if it's possible to adjust the spacing of the icons? I'm running Xfce 4.4.2.

Well, any hints??? :-)))

It would also be nice to be able to remove the background field from around the desktop icon text (if that can be done - and how?)

Has anyone answered this question? It's like my icons are planets in the universe that is my desktop. I want to reduce spacing so I can make it look good.

That link has a desireable, how do I complete the first step in making a GTK file?

As well, any ideas about diminishing the space between my icons? It's basically like this:

That link has a desireable, how do I complete the first step in making a GTK file?

The first command in the link creates the file ".gtkrc-2.0". It's a hidden file - if you don't see it in your browser hit CTRL-H to display hidden files.

touch ~/.gtkrc-2.0

The next command uses the text editor mousepad but you can use any text editor, such as gedit or nano.

So after days of support forms I have come to the conclusion that Xfce cannot adjust icon spacing nor the annoying icon grid on the desktop.

Now if only I can have Ctrl+A highlight all text. I know how to do keyboard shortcuts but I do not know the command for Select-All. help?
