View Full Version : My chair broken every 6 month.

Masoris

Today, my chair suddenly broken down again, so I fall down from chair :(
When I feel of impact during falling down, I realise that my chair was broken every 6 month, and I purchased a new chair.
It really has cycle of life span of chair. I didn't make such life span, it should be made by chair-maker.
Why chair-maker makes chair-life-span on their chair, it makes mess my brain.:confused::confused:

I know what you mean, just try a new brand of chairs.

Sounds like you're buying flimsy chairs, maybe? Either that, or you're making an incredibly strained and flawed analogy to Ubuntu's release cycle . . .

The chair maker makes a new model of chair every 6 months. The older models do not break down. They have life spans of 18 months / 3 years depending on the model. Chairs are solid pieces of furniture meant for peeople to sit on and would even tolerate if you occasionaly stand on them. If you have a problem with breaking chairs look at the way you use the chair. Consider bugs in areas such as your diet habit, ways of settling arguments within your family, whether you park your car or place your refrigerator on the chair.

Just throw your chair and yell "I WILL ******* KILL GOOGLE!"

Should fix the problem. It fixes everything, apparently.

Hmm. That reminds me of something (http://computerjokes.net/045.htm).

My old chair was about 30 years old and made of wood. It was for my old desk (which was also small and made of wood).

My new chair is metal, and will last a long time.

You should look into a more robust chair. My current one cost less than $20 and would be impossible for me to break except with the most extreme effort (and requiring tools)

One thing not asked here is how much do you weigh, Masoris?

If you have the common type of gas-lift office chair, most are designed to carry a weight of around 70-80 Kilograms.

If you have been eating too much pizza and weigh over this, you need to get a chair designed to carry more weight.

Regards,
Roger

I would consider your weight and size before blaming the chair. All chairs probably have some specifications for how much weight the can manage, also sitting in odd positions can destroy chairs faster.

Oh yes chairs. The type of chair I have can be duplicated quickly and cheaply. I can have the same chair again in less than 20minutes. Also, I can send it across the globe and anyone can have that chair. Mysteriously the chair still works after 6 months, without me getting a new one.

So anyway, I see it's release cycle related. There are other distros. Ubuntu releases work for years, the long-term releases especially. If you are desperate to use an older release longer, apply your own security patches.

As for comparing software to physical objects in real life. I think it is nonsensical. Unless said physical objects can be duplicated quickly, for pennies, and sent anywhere in the world quickly while retaining a perfect duplicate... I'll bite :KS

Uh, p_quarles only loosely suggested this had something to do with Ubuntu, I wouldn't take it so seriously.

Oh, I didn't think that. I'm somewhat overweight than normal person, I have about 85 Kilograms. :(
Why chair-makers think average people has 70-80 kilograms, that's wrong I think. Every chair should be carry over 100 kilograms.
BTW Should I fit my weight to my chair, or should I fit my chair to my weight? It's hard to decision.

When I bought this chair, the salesman said to me "This chair is very firm and strong, you should use it for 10 years." So what really he said? 10 years shorten to 6 month, what's happens?

You are skinny compared to me......I'm somewhere around the 120 mark, the last time I checked.

Have you read the manual that came with the chair? Most chairs work better if the load is distributed rather evenly between all of their legs (usually 4), unless they are of the kind with one column and some wheels. Also, they will support more sitting-down-and-standing-up-again cycles if the weight is taken off or placed on the chair while the chair is resting on all legs and stationary while the operation is going on. Then, they should be used on a flat and level surface. Using chairs on stairs, for instance, is frowned upon. Also, take into consideration that most chairs are specified for one user only at a time.

My Chair was my great grandmothers (I am 42) so that is old. I wear her wedding and engagement ring too. Its a mahogany dining chair one of 2. It matches my desk, the beams, wooden floor etc as I am in the Attic. A loft extension. Its a cottage so yes the beams are real beams. Its got a very high ceiling. I need a step ladder and my brother-in-law to change the light bulbs! A modern chair just would not work in the cottage.

I put lots of matching cushions on the chair to match my rugs.

I bet no one has a chair as old as mine!?:)

No - the first time I've mentioned hoodies in a very long time and never on here.

In one of the threads in the OPP, the term "hoodie" was used and we went on a little tangent and found the UK media use the term to describe certain people, even though it is just a piece of clothing.

Im a bigger guy myself and have broken 2 office chairs. The arms went first, then the backs gave out, and on the first one the last thing to give was one of the legs coming out to the wheel (metal frame btw). and after the back gave out on the 2nd one, I said screw this, took it and gave it to my dad as a shop stool and took a kitchen table chair and use that now, which works alot beeter than any old office chair.

A good average office chair should last for at least two or three of years or longer .. I have found that FABRIC chairs last longer than the supposed leather chairs (most have leather surfaces but the edges are VINYL, which wear out quickly. Stay away from any arms that are made from cast plastic. (Pieced stamped or extruded will last longer.)
Chairs are rated in HOURS .. as in how many hours a day you can sit in it and remain comfortable. Needless to say, the one with the highest hour rating will last LONGER.
AND .. get a chair mat! (I use Masonite) It makes moving the chair a lot easier and takes stress off of the chair AND YOU.

Also .. I have a GENUINE Eames/Howard Miller easy chair .. a recliner with ottoman that was made in 1953 from real leather and laminated hardwood and has been constantly used since new. (it is in my media room.) It is still in excellent condition with minor scrapes on it .. but even NOW it is worth between 3000-5000 US. No "knock off" will have anywhere NEAR that lifespan!!
