I need something for structural analysis and design, but i don't have any idea of what to use, I would very much appreciate if anyone could pint me in the right direction.

It doesn't matter is you suggest something closed source or Windows specific, I have Vmware :)

I've been looking one for Linux too. Right now I'm using one called Pplan for Windows. It's an Argentine project (as you're from Mexico I guess you won't have any problems with the Spanish :)). You can download the educational version for free from here:

This version is quite old (2000) and it is not a very intuitive application, but it works.
BTW, if someone knows of an open-source alternative which may work on Ubuntu, I'll appreciate that.
