View Full Version : [kubuntu] File Associations broken

Fresh install of 8.04 with KDE 3.5. All updates installed up to the present time.

File associations are correctly listed in System Settings | General | Personal | Default Applications. However, trying to view a PDF off the web, or trying to view a *.wmv file attached to an email yields the same error message:

/tmp/nameofwmv.wmv could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist.
Change the association in your preferences.

KPDF and xpdf are installed, and Kaffeine will play the wmv video file if I open it from the /tmp directory. However, Thunderbird and Firefox (2) are not following the links.

Now, I did copy the .mozilla and .thunderbird directories over from another machine. However, both machines are using the SAME version of Firefox and Thunderbird (2.0.0.15 for Firefox and 2.0.0.14 for Thunderbird). I also copied these directories to another Kubuntu 8.04 machine and did NOT get this behavior.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Frank.
