For the last few days, I think since a fairly big update, I've been having to log in twice every time I start up Ubuntu (Hardy Heron). I type in my log in info and password, click 'enter', the screen goes black for a second and then suddenly I'm presented with the log in screen again. After I enter my info a second time the system logs me in no problem. I know it's not me entering my password wrong, since this happens every time. Also, I enter my info carefully and there are no error messages. Does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it?

I'm getting this with Jaunty now too. I have a bit more detail about it though, I got a xserver error that stated it was told to run on the same monitor twice. Also after getting a few 3D games in Steam to work, I noticed a bad drop in performance compared to the previous install of Jaunty.

My guess is somewhere in Ubuntu, the startup list has gnome and/or xorg listed twice.
