I am trying to run the "install from within Windows" on my box at work. It will install fine, but when I reboot my machine, I choose Ubuntu as the OS, it gets as far as the Desktop and freezes. Does not do anything else.

I have seen several suggestions about setting my SATA drive to Raid. I only have one Hard drive and a DVD/RW and as far as I know they are not on the same cable; but I can't say for sure. I decided to try it anyway to see if it might make a difference, no change.

Any suggestions on how to get Ubuntu to work.

thanks.

Since you used Wubi, here's the link to the Wubi Guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide#head-47448c7ce144e88d6ee1a0c5aa37a215fec00d86
which hopefully will give you some assistance.

I just installed Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS Server Edition on a Dell Vostro 200. The install couldn't detect the DVD-ROM drive and hard drive until I changed the SATA settings in the BIOS to RAID.
