Hey everybody.

I've had a thought: My mom's thinking of putting Linux on her kitchen computer. She's been tinkering with Linux distros for about 6 years now.

However, I have yet to find any cookbook software for Linux, and that happens to be exactly what she needs on that computer. So, does anyone have any suggestions for one, or at least an app that could be used to:

-Display a picture of the final product.
-Show the instructions on cooking it.
-Show a background of possibly the history of it

I remember that Sierra had a fantastic Windows cooking program called MasterCook that was fantastic. Are there any FOSS alternatives for this one?

I don't know of a Linux equivalent of MasterCook. The wine applications database says, essentially, that MasterCook will not run under Wine. On the other hand the entry is old, and MasterCook may run OK on an up-to-date version of wine.

A google search has thrown up anymeal (http://www.filedudes.com/CookDojo_Home_Edition-getfile-21171.html) (sorry, that sounds wrong now I read it!)But itis still in alpha.

There is also http://www.filedudes.com/CookDojo_Home_Edition-getfile-21171.html. This is a php/mysql app. If you get apache2/php/mysql running on the computer, your Mum could access it in her browser via http://localhost. There is also an online version.

Krecipes (http://krecipes.sourceforge.net/?p=about) would work.

I wonder if Mealmaster will work under Wine?

Wow, old thread is old. I totally forgot about this one.

I just up and went with KRecipes in the past, though it's been a while. Last time I used it the interface was kind of ugly, but that may have changed.

There's always gourmet recipe manager (a gnome one).
