Hi,
I'd like to install Ubuntu 8.04 on a new Asus/Intel computer with a (currently) unformatted hard disk.
I'm new to Linux but fairly experienced with DOS configurations.
I burned and checksummed the desktop ISO file at ubuntu.com to an install disk.
However, the CD player, which is set to be recognized first and its light flashes, won't start the CD but returns the error message "Reboot and select proper boot device or Insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key"
My question is:
Does the install disk only work from Windows; that is, is it not supposed to be a bootable CD? The website doesn't seem to explain.
If it's not bootable, then how does one install from a combo disk that prompts partitioning etc?
Cheers,
Sven
