Trying to uninstall Ubuntu Server and install Ubuntu desktop

I installed Ubuntu Server and now want to uninstall it to install Ubuntu Desktop. But when I try to boot from cd drive into parted magic, it won't let me. It goes straight to boot Ubuntu Server. When I try to install Ubuntu Desktop over Ubuntu Server by booting with the installation cd in the drive, the same thing happens. WHat is the easiest and safest way for me to remove Ubuntu Server and install Ubuntu Desktop?

Maybe you hadn't set in the bios to boot from cd first. Enter the bios (by pressing del or F2 at startup) and then choose to boot first from cd.

I did get into the bios and set it to load from the cd. this didn't work. could there be a problem with the bios or the cd drive? When I look into the bios, the cd drive is recognized. but i can't seem to boot from it.
