EDIT: Please disregard this post. I've found a fix using gconf-editor. I will post it on my initial HDTV overscan post, since it is neither user-friendly, nor intuitive.

Thanks for your patience.

Z.

Hey everyone ;)

If you're using a HDTV as your main monitor and experience the same, please visit:

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/10790/

And vote for making the Gnome panel (the taskbar) moveable/resizable.

Thanks in advance,

Z.

I don't quite understand the problem.... the top/bottom of your screen is cut off?

See this post:

So, yeah, I'm missing about 10 pixels all around :( I've fiddled with the issues for days, even tried installing powerstrip through wine, hoping against hope...

Nothing works, lol.

NVidia is intent on not solving the overscan problem on 8800 cards, period.

Cheers,

Z.

Perhaps the nv cards will work for you. No 3D goodness, but they may be able to solve your overscanning issue.

Fixing overscanning is simple, buy a damn hdmi cable.

@Viriial: Nope, on DVI-to-HDMI
@Smart: I've painstakingly tried (and purged) all drivers...

I use Dvi to HDMI + cable and have no overscan on my 32"lcd .. works fine with my old nvidia card and my new ati card.

@viiral: I had no overscan with the ATI card, but it caused many more issues than just overscan. So I chose the lesser of two evils.

Only issue i have with ati is the compiz\window flickering bug, but its just eyecandy so i dont use it.

You're lucky ;) But the HD2600 is not so nice. Here were my issues:
