problems with ubuntu and mandriva

after i've heard a lot of good stuff about the new ubuntu i decided to download it.
when i've tried to run it as live cd it stucks about 10 seconds on a black screen, and then writs something about GRUB for half a second (there is no way i could read it) and then it loads my mandriva from the HD..
on another computer that has XP, ubuntu loads perfectly.
any help?

What are the system specs?
