I've been using Ubuntu 7.10 for quite some time now and it worked well, but today when i downloaded latest version of Ubuntu 8.04 and installed it, it installed successfully via Wubi but when i tried to Login with my username and password, it just showed a blank screen and after few moments returned to Login window.
Though when i changed session to Failsafe GNOME from Login window, it worked, but i am unable to Login via XClient Script which is the default or even via GNOME, Only Failsafe GNOME works.

Could someone provide any fix for this?

I'm on AMD Athlon 64 3200+, 1.5 GB RAM and with onboard ATI Raedon X200 Graphics

Try the safe login from the login window, to see if Hardy comes up. You can change your user name and password with the escape at kernel start and hit recovery it puts you in root. Here is a link that should take care of the problem read carefully.
