I want to install ubuntu on my new laptop, but after booting from the install disc and selecting install the loading kernel hangs at 70% and the cd immediately spins down. This happens with ubuntu 8.04 (amd64). When I tried ubuntu 7.10 (amd64) it hanged at 49%. Also, on my other laptop it does work, and the cd check indicates that the cd is ok.

I tried various kernel options (noapic nolapic noacpi vga=771 nosplash) but it seems to make no difference either.

Anyone got an idea what could be the problem?
