So, I got my brother a Thinkpad for his birthday, and I have to say, XP is more annoying than I remembered.
First, it didn't boot out of the box, we had to restore XP. Then, he couldn't get it to connect to the internet, and it was another hour of trial and error before than worked.
He wanted to install WoW, and fortunately I had the installers ready for him, but DirectX in the WoW installer was corrupted, so we had to go download it, which meant going through the usual WGA BS. I wasn't suprised that WGA didn't work in Firefox, but was when it wouldn't work in IE7 either. Eventually, I got an installer downloaded.
By that point it was 11, and I went home for the night.
What a pain, I installed the 10 day trial of that game in wine without a hitch, and it ran flawlessly. On XP, it's been a day worth of headaches and nothing works yet.
