I'm trying to shrink my Ubuntu partition down to install Windows alongside.

I'm using Gparted in Ubuntu's live distro mode to do this -- booting from the install CD.

Each time I try Gparted gives the error: "The file system is already xxxx blocks long. Nothing to do!"

xxxx is however many blocks.

I've tried doing this with the 8.04 and 8.04.1 discs, but still no dice.

Anybody know what's wrong?

Hhmm.. don't know..
Maybe you should try GParted LiveCD (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php)?

While in gparted. If you click on the partition in question, and then click on resize and then move from the back to how much you want to resize, wheat happens?
