Hey guys;

A bit of a newbie here, so be gentle ;)

I just got a new 4 gig eee pc, and was wondering if I could somehow install Ubuntu from an SD card? I have no intentions of keeping Xandros, I want to install ubuntu to the internal storage.

As of now I have a handful of SD cards and a 4 gig usb flash drive at my disposal, but I've had problems with the flash drive in the past. Google says plenty about installing from flash drives, but again, I'd like to use that as a last resort.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

(As a side note - I'm currently running Ubuntu on my normal laptop as well. In case it matters ;) )

well. i think a USB cdrom drive is infinitely useful....
but you could always install it as a live installation on the sd card and boot from the sd card in the bios

I have an external DVDRW drive, but the eee doesn't seem to want to boot from it, hence my troubles. I'll buy another external CD drive if I absolutely have to, but for now I'd like to see if I can get it working some other way.

this is fairly simply to do, i managed it and am very new to ubuntu. the easiest way is to download ubuntu iso and make bootable SD with it, as detailed below:

go here and download iso file http://www.ubuntu-eee.com/index.php5?title=Get_Ubuntu_Eee

I suggest this version of ubuntu because it is already configured for the EeePC, with wireless drivers etc.. included so pretty much works from startup (I even got the desktop cube rotating on it).

Follow the instructions on the website above, and thats it. took me about an hour in total to get it all up and running (although i didnt install to inernal card but to 8gb SD).

Good luck. ;-)

For specific eeepc forums i find this website is great http://forum.eeeuser.com/
