Has anyone seen the Skype 4.0 Beta for Windows. If the truth be told its awsome, alot better than 3.8. etc.

How come Linux users are stuck with the terrible edition.

The GUI is horrible, the whole program cannot be minimized to the task bar.

...........

Does anybody know when/if the new version is coming out for Linux?

:)

Then I suggest you to stick with the Win version instead. You should be using what really works for you

Because Skype is made by jerks.

I don't use video chat, but if I did, I wouldn't use that proprietary crap anyway.

I have used the Linux version. I've chatted a lot using both voice and typing, no issues with that so far. The sound is crystal clear. And it does go to the task bar, the same way as Pidgin does, so I don't know what's happening with your installation. I haven't tried video features with that so far, because I got no webcam.

I don't like that Skype on Linux has the tendency of freezing up (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=819622) your entire computer. I've never tried it on another OS yet. But in a few mins this guy I know from the UK is supposted to be on and I'm gonna see how it works using OSX.
