he's not much of a cuddler yet. he had a rough early childhood (we're pretty sure he was ditched). a couple in our neighborhood was feeding him and would have kept him, but their two spoiled rotten fluffballs hate all other cats, so we took him. we've had him for a month and he's gained two and half pounds. our house has cat toys and feathers all over the place (the feathers are from one of his toys). our last cat lived to be 21, so his energy level is quite a shock. i keep saying it's like having an otter loose in the house.

My desktop changes frequently, on average every 5 to 10 days. I was feeling unusually bright and cheery today and very in touch with either my internal 1960's flower-power love child or maybe my "I don't have to be a macho man all the time" side.

Hope your sunglasses are handy.

I'm using gDesklets (http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/). That one is called starterbar (http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/categories.php?func=gd_show_app&gd_app_id=210). Lots of cool eyecandy on that site.

The main gdesklets program can be installed using synaptic and then individual desklets downloaded from the web site. Installation of the individual desklets is easy, just start gdesklets form the terminal

gdesklets and then drag the downloaded desklet's archive icon into the open gdesklets window.

I think I'll soon need a change of style, but for now I like
the Goth/horror theme.

I like to have the minimalistic "task bar" in the bottom. I've no idea

Lazy bear: I was at the zoo about a year ago, and all the grizzlies were walking around like mad (apparently the females were on heat or something) - except this guy. He just sat in the water and was lazy. That's the kind of laziness I can look up to.

What themes are you using to get your panel like that? I have tried various themes from gnome-look.org, but for the darker themes that match the background, I cant read any of the text from the menus after I install them. So it looks good, but its functionally useless. Any suggestions for themes?
Thanks

Sorry I'm late to the party. I didn't want to clean off my desktop, but I finally did. Here is mine for the month:

http://ubuntuforums.org/gallery/showimage.php?i=1273&original=1&c=newimages

Notice the nice drop shadows on my Windows and Gdesklets. I even place a shaded Muine in a white spot so you can really see them- even the K3B status thing in the upper left corner has shadows that are nice. The tao gdesklet looks great and the new window border theme of mine is like a fun Metabox called Brace.

I just recently switched to KDE. I might go back to GNOME, which (who are we kidding ) looks much better, and simpler. KDE is quite a bit more functional I find. For Example, I can right click on a package, and install it with kpackage. Things like that.

I used this (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=79155)

Its really a breeze to install, just a question of apt-get'ting - i was very pleased :D.
Themes work and most modules too.. I wouldnt recommend trying entrance thought as it seriously messes up, at least for me.
The rest feels stable as.. well... gnome i guess ^^

Part of it is just having a good memory. The rest involves clicking on the "User CP" link, going to "Edit Options", and selecting "No Email Notification" from the "Default Thread Subscription Mode" option. This will automatically "subscribe" you to any thread in which you post, but will do so without spamming your mail account.

Well, first post and it's a desktop thread. Where does my karma go from here? ;) Not to mention the fact that I'm posting pics of a non-Gnome-or-KDE desktop. Just who the heck do I think I am?!

Uno (http://www.axiemtech.com/public/clean.png) (cleanliness is next to godliness)
Dos (http://www.axiemtech.com/public/busy.png) (the idle mind is the devil's playground)

Thanks to Stormy for providing some great Openbox threads to get me started. I'm loving the XML configs and its overall super-speediness. You'll notice the Wallpaper pipe-menu in the clean shot; I think Stormy provided that, or at least directed me to it.

So now I've posted; I'm no longer a pure lurker. I'm no Linux n00b, but definitely not a guru either. I'll be happy to help when I can!

LOL. I've got that one and Dark Eternal. Love 'em both. Something about the slightly larger-than-usual window bar just looks right. You probably noticed I took the liberty of reducing the font on the menus, but aside from that, works great. Did you make Dark Eternal, too? If so, you've got a good eye for themes.

I just couldn't wait until December so here's my November Desktop 2.0 ;) I'm trying to learn about GTK themes, it's not as hard as I thought but I really have no idea what can be done and how, so this is just a hack to StrongLooks theme to add some color (and Cairo animations ;)).

Very Simplistic, Dont want to clutter my desktop with alot of Icons :)

EDIT
Can someone point out to me how to use the gallery? First time ive uploaded and curious how to get a thumbnail to post in threads that links to the full version to help the dial uppers.

2nd Edit
Well I found a workaround somewhat. Insert the thumbnail in the img tag then use it to hyperlink to the full version. Also is their anyway to delete pictures you uploaded?

+ xfce4.2, clearlooks and aqualemon.

I needed a clean, fast desktop that looked good and what i have is approaching exactly what i was after.

I am running a Dell L400 laptop that i picked up cheap recently. This is an excellent little system if you are looking for 12" mini notebook. Check on ebay for a cheap one. 700mhz, 256mb - i upgraded the hdd to a 40gb and bought a new battery. I now have a fast laptop that does everything i need.

Portable little thing fits nicely in my day pack for travelling and audits.

I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and this is how my desktop looks like. I made the wallpaper myself using GIMP to match the theme...

I also recently installed ubuntu on a laptop. In fact I'm postin from the laptop right now !\\:D/

However, I think the ultimate desktop can only be obtained (with minimum resources) with fluxbox. Transparent everything! :KS As soon as I'm done with finals I will configure fluxbox and have my ultimate desktop!

Bless you, Purdy  :D . I looove Rammstein :D . Kind of weird, having a girly desktop (cause i'm not so much of a girl, rather a tomboy  ), and then having Rammstein running.
