Updating one application within Ubuntu Studio Package

I have Ubuntu studio working nicely on a dell Inspiron 8500 and a Dell 1420.
All is working but I would like to change puredata to puredata-extended.
Synaptic wants to remove the entire ubuntustudio-audio package.

Is there a way to remove just one app out of a package, without removing the whole package?

I had run into the same issue before with Csound before it was updated to version 5.

No. Doing this will break the metapackage. Just the way it works.

I want to do exactly the same thing but it doesn't work for me. If I try to remove PD, ubuntustudio-audio is clearly selected for uninstall.
Any ideas?
