It will remain.

kubuntu-desktop - the old KDE (3.5.8 or 3.5.9, I'm not sure)
kubuntu-kde4-desktop - KDE4

At the login screen go to Options > Sessions and select KDE (or Kubuntu)

EDIT: BTW, why do you want to install KDE ? Why don't you just install the video codecs ?
Applications > Add/Remove > search for `codec` and install all the codecs you need.

hi,
gnome desktop will remain . it wont get deleted. if u want kde apps, u can install it in gnome without installing kde-desktop.

which version of ubuntu r u installing? if u install ubuntu 8.04, u can find almost all the cities of india in the timezone/ weather list.
use this link to learn and upgrade ubuntu to ur needs. it gives detailed info abt how and what to install to make ubuntu a multimedia machine

aptitude is now installing kde-4.0.3

i am installing from latest ubuntu-8.04 iso downloaded yesterday.
the time zone has no cities from india.
i am now using colombo as the time is same for srilanka and india:(

may be if i update fully it may come in.

let me try upgrade full.

well, i find gnome much easier to use than kde 4.0.3 , but it entirely depends on user's choice. and u will definitely find indian cities in ubuntu 8.04. i have kolkata as the second city in timezone listings. :)

yes you are right
i found kolkata in timezone sttings in clock configure.
i was looking for Calcutta.

it installed kde-3.5.9 packages. not 4.0.3
the kde looks different from other kde menu structures i use in gentoo installations.:(
