Darkade

Let me start :lolflag:

Back en secondary school we used to hand out a lot at the arcade near school. So I started calling myself the nickname arcade.
Later That turned into The Arcade. Later Da Arcade.
By high school I started spelling it as DaArcade. and later with a 'k' LOL so it would be DaArkade. Finally I got rid of the extra 'a' and it ended up as it is today. Darkade:lolflag:

speedwell68
July 1st, 2008, 10:57 PM
Speedwell is an old English tuning company that specialised in performance Volkswagens in the 1960s and 1970s, and I am into the things they did. And I drive a 1968 Volkswagen bus. So Speedwell68 it is.

jualin
July 1st, 2008, 10:58 PM
My dad came out with the username the first time we had internet service. We had to come up with a login for the ISP so we chose "jualin" a mix of my name, Juan, and my sister's and my mom's name, Alina.

July 1st, 2008, 11:01 PM
My name is from the programming language perl and the rest means I love perl. However I really don't like perl, but I have been using the name since 1997. So I have stuck with it.

Le-Froid
July 1st, 2008, 11:03 PM
Bad translation for "awesome" in French ~ "Le Froid". Later found out le froid meant "cold" or "cool". Just kept word Froid and Le-Froid out of laziness :)

lisati
July 1st, 2008, 11:07 PM
Mine started a couple of years ago as "Lisati Leoleo", a BAD translation of my real name into Samoan. Later, before I joined the forums, I dropped the "Leoleo", and kept "Lisati".

sisco311
July 1st, 2008, 11:19 PM
I thought sisco is the short form of Francisco (Ferenc - Hun, Francisc - Rom). D'oh.:lolflag:
311 is a semi-random number.

KenBW2
July 1st, 2008, 11:31 PM
My name is Ken. My other initials are BW
Hotmail (my first account since I escaped from AOL) didn't have kenbw@hotmail.com available, and it suggested kenbw2 to me.
And so it sticks :)

Oh crap, now everyone knows my Hotmail address. Good thing I never use it ;)

Superkoop
July 2nd, 2008, 12:40 AM
Simple really, my last name is Koopman, and well I could easily call myself superman (I have man in my name clearly), but I use koop instead. So, I'm not superman, I'm Superkoop.
Also, lots of my friends call me Koop, so it was an easy choice to use in a username. :)

gn2
July 2nd, 2008, 12:48 AM
My initials are G N, I have 2 names, gn2 sounds a bit like gentoo, which is a type of penguin.

July 2nd, 2008, 12:56 AM
Mine means nothing. No, it has nothing to do with the routers, linksys or anything like that. :)

DoktorSeven
July 2nd, 2008, 01:02 AM
Just came to me when I needed an online name way back, sort of a corruption of my first name for the "Seven" part (Stephen) and a sort of play on the old "I'm not a doctor but I play one on TV" commercial replacing "TV" with "the Internet". Then the C->K for good measure.

schauerlich
July 2nd, 2008, 01:03 AM
My dad made my username when we first got AOL. I was about 5 and didn't have a say in the matter. I would have been EricBurg, but that was taken, so I was EDavidBurg (David is my middle name, Burg is the last part of my last name)

LOL good one ;)

ghindo
July 2nd, 2008, 02:58 AM
Online, I went as "Gandhi" for a while. (What can I say? He's a pretty cool guy.) I eventually got sick of not having my own identity and started using this gross misspelling of the name. I found that no one else uses this name, so I stuck with it. 99% of the time, if you see a "ghindo" on the internet, it's me.

Dr Small
July 2nd, 2008, 03:05 AM
I have a difficult time choosing a handle. On First to Fight, I made a new handle every day, but my most famous ones were:
_ISR_m3rc_

Which stood for International Spy Ring; Mercenary
And then of course, Dr Small. Taken from the Hoosier Schoolmaster, although I made a mistake when I took it, and called myself Dr William Small, and his was Henry Small.

Not a big difference though. But I used the name because I liked his personality, even though he was the villian in the book :p

Yuki_Nagato
July 2nd, 2008, 05:23 AM
This here small-timer likens himself to the mighty super-user that is Yuki Nagato from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

I considered ripping Iwakura Rein's name, but that would imply I was dabbling in power beyond anything attainable using just a computer.

grimdeath
July 2nd, 2008, 05:34 AM
I originally went by gundamx9740 based on gundam wing anime, just added the X cause i thought it was cool, turns out there really was a gundam x series in the various spin offs!
http://www.ehobbyland.com/BOOK/BOOK-GundamX-3D.jpg

When I met the girl about 6 years ago (who is now my wife) she begged me to join yahoo messenger. I was past my interest with gundam and wanted something darker so I based mine off the grim reaper aka death. Ill never change it because of the tie with meeting my wife.

I also have friends in person that call me grim :P it just stuck.

lukjad
July 2nd, 2008, 11:36 AM
Because of AOL and paranoia (or did I just repeat myself?). When I joined up for an AOL free trial of Dial-Up (Oh, the horror. the horror!) I didn't want anyone to get my full name. I chose to have my identity known as "Luke". Guess what? "Luke" was taken. SO I knew my Mom's favourite stone was the jade. I decided to combine the two and remove the "e" in each. That worked until the three month trial ran out. At that time I had no idea about spyware, viruses, trojans, etc. and have been besieged by all manners of ads most unsuitable for a child of 12. When I did find about them I had extreme paranoia and installed every spyware, adware, and virus killer programs. I became a spyware, adware and virus combatant. I would tell everyone I knew about this deadly plague and warn them about suspicious programs. In the midst of this turmoil my free trial with AOL ended and I didn't feel the need to continue with 26kb/s speeds for the low, low price of $22.95 per month. When I got my next free trial I couldn't use my same name (lukjad) so since I was into spies and spyware I added 007. This was before I knew who James Bond was and what he was like. All I knew was that James Bond was a spy. Now it's too late to change. But, hey! I like this name.

Top that!

Mancman
July 2nd, 2008, 04:58 PM
Manchester people are known as 'Mancs' (ie. 'Mancunian', which comes from the Roman name for our fair city, 'Mancunium'). The history lesson is now over.

I wasn't in a particularly imaginative mood when I chose it....

pmlxuser
July 2nd, 2008, 05:04 PM
Well mine i think when i was installing a linux distro (i forgot which one) it gave a suggestion of the name pmlinuxuser a combinationof th intitials of my fist name & surname. I decided to shorten it to pmlxuser... hence it come to stay.

I chose mine because it is my name. :)

sharkinfested
July 2nd, 2008, 06:12 PM
I used to own a Jack Russell named Shark - she got that name because of the way she attacked the supper dish. :)
Anyway, when Shark had her first litter all of her puppies assaulted food in the same enthusiastic manner so they were each named after a type of shark. To keep them out of trouble I took Tiger, Hammerhead, Mako, and Bull (along with their mom) to work with me every day. They were so much fun to watch – particularly when they ate – that several customers came in every day to see them. Closing one day I noticed a sign that one of our customers posted on or door. It read something like “Enter at your own risk! These premises are shark infested!”

Saint Angeles
July 3rd, 2008, 01:41 AM
there used to be a wonderful website at overgrow.com a few years ago while i was living in hollywood. i used Saint Angeles for my username there and i had about 3500 posts on that site when it was shutdown.

its nostalgic for me

names i've used in the past are "netrophyte" (a more 'internetty' neophyte i guess), "Dual Malaise" (a name i use for my music creation), and i'm currently using "darkmusic" because, well, i'm just getting tired of thinking up clever names.

Pythagoream
July 6th, 2008, 07:02 AM
My name has always been "nork_23" (cause I'm a little bit of nerd and a whole lotta dork, yeah...my sister gave it to me back when email was huge. But it's like an online surname.

but then I thought might as well give myself an online first name and then one day in math class i thought...mmmm Pythagoream (from Pythagorean Theorem) is a pretty sweet name.

I know technically it should be spelled Pythagorean but my math instructor seems to spell it with the m and I'm pretty sure that it can be spelled either way. Plus Pythagoream just sounds better.

But since I like math and science, although political philosophy reigns supreme in my subjects of interest,

I chose Pythagoream.

So then I started using both.

July 6th, 2008, 03:19 PM
Mine has it's roots in the good old days when I started frequenting IRC chatrooms, I needed a nick to login with, so I used my initials (AJK) and 'The' and 'Man" are pretty self explanatory. And TheAJKMan was born. Have used it ever since :)
