Hi there...

I have a slightly different question this time.
My professor asked me, weather it's possible to disable the auto update message box ("New updates are avaiable") but not to disable the autoupdate itself.

Is this possible and if it is, how to do it?

Greetings

Take a look here:

http://www.watchingthenet.com/how-to-configure-automatic-updates-schedule-in-ubuntu.html

I think the option your professor wants would be either "Install security updates without notification" or "Download all updates in the background."

no no....

he wants to disable ONLY the popup message "new updates are avaiable".

nothing else (e.g. automatically download,...)

And I'm using Gentoo, so I've no idea ;)

you can try to hide the tray icon of the adept updater

right click tray applet handle configure system tray

this i have tried in kde only.
