I suggest this.
The fonts must be changed in this theme.

I love it. This is like a cross between the current one and one of the more extreme proposed themes for Intrepid. I dunno about everyone else, but this is exactly what I would be looking for in a default theme:D!

I think that the theme that was proposed for Hardy -- Union -- would be the best choice goind forward.

My own attempt to recreate the look here:

I would say FutureHuman gives human a fresh yet out of the way look when combined with HumanClearlooks in Hardy. I don't think they need to go through the effort of designing a whole new theme if they don't have to in order to create a fresh looking theme.

+1

that theme is very nice

i like those icons too

Ubuntu really needs new modern icons

only problems i see with that theme is the buttons are too flat for my taste (different button styles could be added)...

another small problem is the orange menu bar font stays black in firefox and OOo, while the theme changes it everywhere else to white (nautilus and other apps)

this cool theme and i like the dark window borders

I also like the the theme the original posted suggested, but I'm not sure I can tell the active window from the inactive ones on that theme.

Pretty good theme.
Fonts and Window borders should be changed though.

@OP: Why don't you start a poll who prefers these theme than Intrepid Alpha theme.

I have to say that I really like to be surprised in October. And so far in terms of a new look for a desktop, the only thing that really made me jump out of my seat was when I saw this: http://www.gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/45837-1.jpg.

Of course this mock-up has got nothing to do with the Ubuntu look/desktop as we know it, but it sure as hell would nice if something radical happened and surprised us all in the most positive way that'll make Ubuntu stand out even more. Just like Compiz Fusion did it.
A new theme isn't that important, it's just different colors and a new wallpaper.

It's open source, stir it up!!!

Something like this will probably end up in Ibex: http://www.gnome-look.org/CONTENT/content-pre1/83195-1.png, but that just doesn't cut it, it doesn't "rock my boat".

I just see one issue: this screenshot is using an emerald theme. What will be the metacity theme for people that do not have a graphics card support compositing?

+100000!!!!!!

I always wondered why they are so cautious not to induce much change. LOOK WHAT APPLE DID FROM MAC OS 9 TO X!!! THE CHANGE WAS PHENOMENAL!!!

You know why they can do that? They have a smaller userbase, so a big change won't affect the globe too much. Linux has an even smaller and a more educated and computer proficient userbase (generally), so RADICAL CHANGES PEOPLE!!!

Love the first link you posted.

Theme changes really aren't a big deal. It's not like it's hard to change a theme to one you like...

They are. And, as easy as it is to change the theme, people base their entire view of an OS on its looks. Make a bad-looking OS that looks like Windows 95, nobody will want it. Make it fancier than Vista, people will jump at it. Look at Vista. The Whole reason everybody thinks it is so cool is because of the default eye candy. (Try explaining to somebody rejecting Ubuntu for its looks that it can look better than vista. They do not want to mess with it.) Look at leopard. Everybody loves it because of the new spaces and the semi-reflective dock. It just "looks so cool".

Another theme I liked was Art of Cappuccino (http://www.opendesktop.org/content/show.php/Art+Of+Cappuccino+Full+Theme+Package!?content=6431 9). I think the theme in the origional post is imo to flat.

I think its a step in the right direction (window frame shapes etc). But the colours still need work.

I hope next intrepid's theme colour should be customisable. I some times want to change Human theme's colour.

I was going to suggest that theme, as it keeps the ubuntu colors, but looks a lot nicer.

I actually use this theme on my desktop.

For the icons, I suggest this:

The gdm theme could use some update too.

Ya um NO. This is the best theme I have ever seen, and I have literally spend days searching the internet and gnome-look for a decent ubuntu theme.

That's awesome.

If Ibex is gonna change things, then this suggestion for a new look and desktop experience is really worth looking into.

Have a look for yourself: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Gimmie-Human

I've always thought that the original Gimmie menu (a fork is called Mayanna) was a great idea, and if Ubuntu made it their own and configured it to suit many people's needs, make it universal, in addition with the Gimmie Bar, that would be a step-up from the standard Gnome desktop into something excellent.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Artwork/Incoming/Intrepid/Gimmie-Human?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=GimmieHumanComputerMenuRevisionLarge.png

I really think this mock-up for a new Ubuntu design is the way to go, maybe not in Ibex, but definitely in the releases to come.

the problem with gimmie is that it has always been too big and last time i used it it was buggy.

i like the raptor menu size better (when is finished)

i would like to try gimmie again in the future maybe i'll change my mind
