doh! I left the mac address filtering enabled on the router - works now I've fixed that up:D...

---------------------------------

Apologies if I missed the fix, I have searched here for quite a while before posting....

Ok here goes.

My setup -
linksys router wrt160n
WPA-Mixed enabled

DSL working, wireless working (can access internet from Eeepc and Mac mini) and wired connection works fine

I want to be able to use WPA - not too keen on WEP, and certainly don't want to use an open network.

My network name is prickly - the other network in the area is from a neighbours setup

ok, so here are my configs and the output of various commands

/etc/networking/interfaces

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto wlan1
iface wlan1 inet dhcp
wpa-driver wext
wpa-ssid prickly
wpa-ap-scan 1
wpa-proto WPA
wpa-pairwise TKIP
wpa-group TKIP
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK
wpa-psk <mylonghexstring> - generated using this guide - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=318539 - ie. wpa_passphrase <my_essid> <my_preshared_key>

/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

ap_scan=1
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant

network={
ssid="prickly"
scanssid=1
proto=WPA
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="<my pre shared key>"
pairwise=TKIP
group=TKIP

}

Here's the output from various commands I have seen others run to try to diagnose issues

Ajny thoughts anyone?

is the problem in this bit

un-parts: executing /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/linux-wlan-ng-pre-up
wlanctl-ng: Operation not supported
Failed to enable the device, exitcode= 1 .
run-parts: /etc/network/if-pre-up.d/linux-wlan-ng-pre-up exited with return code 1

or is something else going wrong?

suggestions on how to troubleshoot further appreciated

thanks
