server 8.04 update problem

when i try to update the system im met with this error (its a lot longer as there is an error for each repo)

DNS not working? No internet connection?

as far as i can tell there are no problems with the internet connection or DNS.

how can i tell if there is a problem with the DNS?

this is my first time settin up a server aswell as being a bit of a noob in linux
