Hello
I am using the ubuntu CD that was shipped to my house. When i try to boot from that CD as the first booting device, the following error comes up:
Invalid Compressed Format
Kernel Panic-not syncing:VFS:Unable to mount root fs on unknown block(104,1)

I am using intel processor(32 bit) 3.06 Ghz,1GB ram P4..what parameter should i give at boot prompt so that the CD boots???Even the memory test and live cd option gives the same error.Kindly help..i am totally confused ?

Possibly your CD has got errors on it. try downloading another CD or borrow one from a friend if it does the same then your CD reader/Drive might have the problem, but possibly its the first one.

They produce CD in huge numbers I don't think they spend time trying to verify if the image burned oK. (its free you can't sue them right.)
