I just love that simulated 3-d effect! Even with my stereo bookshelf speakers it sounds like I have 6-channel surround sound! I've adopted it for ubuntu studio too.

Have you also noticed Mandriva's default background changes its color depending on day/night?The Mandriva team really put a lot of work in Mandriva to make it attractive.

Interesting! now that you mention it, I had noticed it's sometimes monochrome blue, other times w/ gold/yellowish parts, but hadn't made the connection with day/night. (I use it almost always during the day).

I would like to see that startup 3d effect. Is it on youtube by any chance?

I like that feature and Mandriva 2008.1 looks slick. The changing wallpaper according to time feature, was first introduced by the Fedora devs in Fedora 8.

As for the system sounds, Mandriva usually has unique ones. I am not sure if they pay someone to work on that or if someone contributes the sounds to the distro.
