Hi everyone,

I have tried to install ubuntu 8.04 on my Samsung Q1 UMPC and all went ok but the touchscreen. I have always problems configuring it. I have followed various guides but with no sitive result.

Than I have read about the release of the MID version, designed for UMPC with touchscreen.

I have downloaded the McCaslin version from here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/mobile/releases/hardy/

tried to burn it and install it... but the cd doen't boot.

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

I have an Asus eeePC so I am quite interested in Ubuntu MID now.

I am used to using .iso files for CDs but this stuff is given as .img files and I do not know what I would ned to do to make use of the file. In my case I can use an SD card to boot from, if I knew more about the .img file use that is.

in fact it's written that the .img file can be used to boot from an USB device.

Can someone post how to ues ethe img file to boot from a n USB key or disk?

Thanks

I also have a SamsungQ1 notebook and I have installed Ubuntu MID successfully with a USB stick.
For instructions, you can refer to:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cases/UMEinstall#head-9172068ac23e22b2cee2287d8f43dea74af2dd72

In the subtitle 'Flashing your Device'

I choose the .img file from the following link:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/moblin/hardy/mccaslin_samsungq1ultrafull/current/

After creating image on your USB stick, you can use the stick to boot your Q1. Be sure to set the USB stick as your boot device in BIOS.

Hopefully it helps. I am a rookie in mobile Linux, and I am not sure it also works on your computer. I am keeping research on it.

Cool, well, that helped a ton - though now my problem is that I can't quite get the gui going. I can get X running. But it eventually dies. I've tried a number of things and haven't really had much success. I think the issue is related to fonts. Everything seems fine until it starts drawing UI elements with text in them and they come out as little squares and weird stuff then the UI crashes....

Any thoughts would be radical.

I have a Q1 Ultra, I used the USB to install it, worked perfectly fine.

Well, I suppose it's only fair to point out that I'm not actually using a Q1, but rather a Motion Computing M1300. Yes, I noticed they are not the same gadget. But it was SO close to working before I decided to tinker with something else.
