I have a Koolu Net appliance running Ubuntu 7.04. Does anyone know if it is safe to upgrade to Ubuntu 8.04? Has anyone done it? I know there were some issues upgrading to 7.10.

I received an e-mail from Koolu tech support indicating that they were recommending upgrading to Hardy Heron and that "information regarding this upgrade will be posted on our website shortly."

They told me something similar about four months back. The website is still in a Feisty/Gutsy world.

Hardy 8.04.1 still has issues with X on the Koolu (although not the blackout that follows a Gutsy install). I'm inclined to wait for Intrepid: the live disk of Intrepid Alpha 3 runs beautifully - full and surprisingly slick gnome, great video, 1280 x 1024 res! All out of the box. I think a data backup followed by a fresh install of Intrepid Final come November may be the way to go. Unless before then Koolu finally tell their customers that Hardy is the way to go, and how to overcome the issues... Lets face it the logic of ubuntu upgrades is that you would have to go to Gutsy first and upgrade from there to Hardy and then apply the X fix...

This is the last information I received from them, on July 6 2008:

You should not have any issues with the upgrade, but to get a better a resolution, you will need to install different video drivers. This is the information that will be posted to our website: www.koolu.com.

If you wish to do LTSP and use our Net Appliance as a thin client, you will also need to follow the two sets of instructions below:

Good point about having to upgrade to Gutsy and then to Hardy. I'll have to try out Intrepid.

Thanks
